Valuable tips on maximizing your web presence. Enrich your mind here.
It's a safe bet that your organization has at least one project that could do with the attention of professional web developers, and that you're putting it off because you're concerned about how it will affect your budget. What if there were a place to find highly qualified developers who were looking to handle your project on a completely pro-bono basis?
There is such a place; in fact there are several. One of them is called GiveCamp, and it's coming up in Dallas very soon.
Last January I participated in the first Dallas Give Camp, at which over 2000 total development hours were donated to projects for 13 local charities. The event was so successful that organizers have now decided to run two events per year, allowing more charities to be served.
My team spent the weekend designing and producing a website, for the Nourish Collective, an organization dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to poverty and disease. We had an fantastic experience getting to know the passionately driven Nourish Collective organizers, hacking elegant code through the night, feasting on Mountain Dew and pizza, and occasionally sleeping.
We all had a great time, and those 13 charities walked away with new websites, new features, and useful tools to help them in their work.
There's still time for organizations to apply for the upcoming camp. Head over to http://dallasgivecamp.org to find out more. I'll be there myself, and hope to see you there too!
